LAGOUVARDOS is located in a protected little bay on the Western Peloponnese coast, just south of the village of Filiatra. It’s by far one of the most consistent spots in Greece, and long time home to surf schools. The break usually offers a good variety of sizes to cater for all ranges and levels, and on good days you can catch overhead barrels with pristine blue waters and a sandy reef.
Usually you drive from Athens and it takes about 3-4 hours, depending on your speed. Just take the National Highway South towards Kalamata and turn off after the big iron bridge, towards Kalo Nero. You can also get there easily from Kalamata.
On your way back make sure to stop in Kiparissia and grab a souvlaki from “To Hoiropiasto Souvlaki” on 25is Martiou Road in the center! If you’re spending a couple days in the region make sure to check out Voidokilia beach, Methoni lighthouse and the Valta Waterfall.
Lagouvardos works best in the Spring and Autumn because of the big Westerly systems coming in across the Mediterranean. You do get a few good days over summer but there are also restrictions during high season due to swimmers in the water.
